First Ice

Again last night we stayed up way past our bedtime. I noticed at 0145 that the sky to the north was about as dark as it would get. By 0200 the sun was coming back up! We had less than 3 hours of darkness and it never got totally dark.
This morning we awoke ten minutes before the alarm with an announcement that we were passing a tabular iceberg. We jumped out of bed like it was on fire, wrapped ourselves in wool blankets and ran out to the balcony to enjoy our first iceberg. We were so excited, we didn't stop to put on shoes. Barefoot at 8 below, it's a little chilly. It was far away and the sky is a little overcast but still I could see some blue streaks in the ice. Certainly the pictures will not do it justice.
Can't wait until we can get a closer look. I have been told that tech services is working on the webcam. Hopefully they will have it back up soon.
We couldn't wait until tonight to get these pictures posted. We'll write again later after our visit to the largest Chinstrap rookery in the world.

Simply gorgeous! Have they told you why icebergs are blue?
